The Art of Tantric Sex
by Troy Truman
Tantric sex has the reputation of being taboo or forbidden in some aspects, but it's really something far more spiritual. Originating in India several centuries ago, Tantra itself consists of a set of teachings meant to make people aware of their own energy and the energy that surrounds them. Tantric sex expands on these teachings by using Tantra and applying it to sex. Since Tantra emerged as a rebellion of sorts to the organized religion of the time, which rejected sexuality in favour of complete spiritual enlightenment, Tantra views sex a different way. It is a mentality that suppresses the selfishness and stresses the feeling far more.
Sex often reads like a story; there is a beginning (sexual excitement and maybe foreplay), a middle (penetration), and an end (an orgasm). Tantric sex doesn't focus on orgasms at all; in fact, Tantra prohibits the orgasm from being the sole objective for men during sex. While most people in the West would probably think that sex without an orgasm isn't really sex but merely foreplay, the point of Tantric sex is to feel everything about the experience and not worry about the orgasm as much. That doesn't mean orgasms don't exist, but they're not the ultimate destination; they're merely part of the journey.
Tantric sex has an alternate view entirely. There is no story being created; there is no beginning, middle, and end. Seeing as the average man achieves orgasm in about 10 to 15 minutes and the average woman needs about 20 minutes to warm up to the point of achieving orgasm, it seems that there are quite a few unsatisfied women out there. Tantra teaches both men and women how to prolong sex to make it possible for both partners to achieve multiple orgasms in one session.
Everything is prolonged and slowed down; foreplay is extended. Various sexual positions are selected primarily for intimacy and eye contact between partners. With no rush to "finish," increased self-awareness and awareness for each other's bodies takes precedence. Breathing, touching, erotic massage, and other such tips are often used to make the sexual experience more enjoyable for everyone. Tantric sex will look different to different people; every instructor has his or her own favourite techniques to stress. Therefore, each couple should explore the different possibilities and find what works for them in order to achieve and maintain a deep level of intimacy during every sexual encounter.
