How Do You Rate Yourself As A Utah Massage Therapist by Janey Brady
This is an important question to ask yourself if you're a massage professional. In my experience, I've found that many Utah massage therapists are afraid to rate themselves honestly. Unfortunately, not getting honest feedback can mean professional disaster. Clients won't usually tell you how you rate, they simply won't return for another massage. Therefore, it is important to constantly seek honest reviews from your clients.
One way to know if you rate well as a therapist is by asking yourself two simple questions; "Am I getting repeat business?" and "Are my customers referring others to me?" These are honest questions and sometimes we are afraid to answer them. It is crucial however to ask yourself these questions if you're going to be a success in your massage practice.
Another way to know that your clients are getting what they want is to "check in" with them. Make it a point to ask them occasionally, how they are enjoying the massage, and what areas need more work. Of course you don't want to talk too much during the massage, but you do want to keep the line of communication open. You and your client should both be comfortable speaking about what types of treatments work best during the massage. Good communication will often allow your client to feel open about what their needs are. Staying open, means clients will be more likely to give you honest feedback about their massage.
Lastly, and I think most important is to offer your clients a feedback card that they can fill out at the end of the massage treatment. Allow them to drop it anonymously in a submission box. The key is that people are likely to be more honest when they can remain anonymous. Honest information is what helps you, the professional therapist. It's often a surprise what people will say when they can speak their minds openly. It's not always pleasant to hear, but it's the feedback you need to improve your professional massage skills.
Can you imagine a client telling you that your massage was horrible? Lucky for most of us, we won't ever hear this from our clients. The problem is that they just won't come back if they feel the massage didn't meet their expectations. You as a therapist, don't get the opportunity to find out what was wrong, you simply lose the client. Maybe it would be better if our clients just told us directly, what they thought of our work?
If you're not getting return business and referrals, chances are your clients don't rate you very high as a massage therapist. The good news is that we can improve our professional skills and retain clients by checking in with them and keeping the line of communication open. Allowing clients to submit a review anonymously can also be invaluable feedback for your improvement. As Utah massage professionals, we need to seek our client's reviews persistently even though it may not be what we want to hear.
